Welcome to The Creative Scholar: My Writing Journey Blog
A place for writers, readers, and artists. My name is Chelsea, and my love for literature started long before I could read or write. My mother would read stories to me each night before bed, and books have been a huge part of my life ever since. Now, I want to share that passion with others who appreciate words as much as I do by sharing my writing journey.
Have you ever read a book and felt like you were transported to another world? Or imagined a piece of fiction so vividly that you forgot you were reading? Those moments are precious to me, and they’re what keep me coming back to books, time and time again. That’s why I started this blog: to share my love for literature through reviews and analysis, to explore my curiosity for writing, and to learn how to help others bring their art to life.
A Little Background
Freshly graduated from high school, I was excited to start university—but I had no clue what I wanted to study. I just knew I had to keep learning. I chose English, something I loved, and dove into my first year at university in small-town Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
The year was filled with interesting classes, dedicated professors, and plenty of late-night study sessions. But by the end of it, I was panicking. What kind of job would I get with this degree? How would I make money? ‘Maybe I could be a professor,’ I thought—but that wasn’t the dream I had in mind.
I made the logical choice and switched to business. I dove in headfirst, excelled, and felt on top of the world. I studied abroad, overcame my fear of public speaking, and even landed an internship at a prestigious company. Everything seemed to be falling into place.
The Turning Point
However, once I finished my degree and landed a corporate job, I started reading again—and remembered everything I loved about literature. I felt grief for the classes I didn’t take, the job I had that didn’t feel right. And for the first time since switching programs, I realized I couldn’t ignore my passion anymore.
Despite the outward success, my mental health suffered, and after two years of feeling trapped, I made the bold decision to leave my job and move to marketing. It wasn’t my first choice, but it got me out of a cubicle and gave me the breathing room I needed.
Present Day
Fast forward to today, and I’m working at my alma mater, in the student accounts office. It’s not glamorous, but the people are fantastic, and it’s given me the stability I need to recover from burnout. I’m finally in a place where I can breathe, think, and dream.
I’m ready to follow my passions and open the door to my writing journey. This blog is just the beginning. While I didn’t get to take all the amazing courses or write the papers I envisioned, I am committed to pursuing literature and storytelling. My goal is to eventually write my own book and step into the world of editing.
This blog is a space where I can share my writing journey, connect with fellow creators, and offer insights from my experiences. Whether you’re a fellow writer, reader, or artist, I invite you to follow along as I explore literature, writing, and the creative process. Thank you for joining me on this adventure!
